What most people often do is that they confuse their dreams for the year with their goals. There is a very significant difference between your Goals and Dreams – A goal is something that you are taking steps to accomplish while a dream is a great idea for your life, but no progress has been made to realize it.
Turning that great dream into a reality starts with the very simple task of setting a Goal. Setting a Goal involves making a choice to put in effort and determined steps towards realizing that dream. Once the goals have been set, you are automatically in motion. Goals are extremely instrumental for success – whether it’s starting a new business, improving your relationship, gaining a specialized skill or losing some extra pounds.
‘Goal setting is a powerful process of thinking about your ideal future, and for motivating yourself to turn your vision of this future into reality’. It feels good to set a goal – apart from the burst of optimism you get, setting goals triggers change. The process of setting goals helps you choose where you want to go in life and what you would like to achieve.
- Write down your Goals for 2020: It is very important to have your goals written down as studies have found that you are 42% more likely to achieve your goals just by writing them down. Writing your goals down will motivate you to act and provides you with more clarity on what you actually want. You can track your progress, recognize opportunities in line with your goals and know when you are steering off course.
If you don’t have your goals written down, please grab a piece of paper and start writing those goals down.
- You will need a PLAN: It’s not enough to simply decide where you want to be by the end of 2020, you also need to ask yourself what you need to do to get there. Every Goal that you will ever pursue will require a plan of action. You can’t just stop at setting Goals, you must make plans and work toward them.
Remember you can’t change everything at once so ask yourself, ‘what is the smallest thing I can do every day that will help me reach my goal?’ Small changes can pave the way for bigger changes. You only need to make very small changes that are consistent with your big goals and most times those changes will be reflected in the choices you make everyday.
Also write down what your plan will be to accomplish those Goals you have written down.
Now that you have a clear picture of what you would like to achieve in 2020 and how you intend to get there, say a prayer and get that divine ‘Extra’ on your ‘Ordinary’.
May 2020 be your best year yet.
Go for it – you got this !
